The Science

The program provided by NeverTechLate is supported by research initiatives driven from all over the world, collected for the past three decades.

Out of the more than 50 academic research papers that NeverTechLate has studied and continues to review, below are a few key articles that have inspired the creation of the curriculum. They can be divided into three core areas—lifelong learning, loneliness, & the digital gap.

Lifelong Learning

Cognitive training is surprisingly durable over time. NeverTechLate strongly supports this and is a big advocate of lifelong learning - it is never too late to learn!

A great way to protect the brain from decline and revitalize neuroplasticity is through lifelong learning. Even during later years of life, or after damaging effects of diseases such as strokes, the brain’s ability to develop is not entirely hindered.

NeverTechLate’s program not only improves digital abilities but also helps to develop cognitive engagement and health.

Loneliness

NeverTechLate aims to break the isolation cycle by providing older adults with the right education so they can use tablets to stay connected with their families and social networks.

When older adults move into nursing homes and assisted living facilities they often feel disconnected from the world. Technology can help combat this problem as it can bring the world to them. It can close the distance and provide the space for connections to be made and maintained. Closing the digital gap is paramount and NeverTechLate’s curriculum can be the first step to achieving this.

The Digital Gap

With technology becoming more prominent in all areas of society it is getting harder to survive without a good understanding of innovations. Many key services such as health and social security are now using digital tools as the exclusive ways of communicating and organising appointments, so those without access are getting left behind – they are falling victim to the digital gap.

Digital illiteracy is a driver of inequality and NeverTechLate is fighting to close this gap. While the course primarily aims to improve digital literacy primarily for video conferencing platforms, it also seeks to empower students with the skills and confidence to access and use all of the key services necessary for day-to-day life.
